Contemporary Classic with a Twist.

Inspiration Board for Living Room.
Client: Nairobi.

Nairobi - who recently moved into a fabulous new home - needed decor advice for her blank slate of a living room. After filling out and submitting my Decor Questionnaire, I determined her decor aesthetic to lean towards the contemporary, yet classic, with bold statement-making  pieces. She provided me with carte blanche to come up with a design board that would provide her with all the elements to transform her space into something truly sophisticated and statement-making ,
while sticking to her approx 1.3K budget for the entire space - including furniture pieces.

Here is a breakdown of the inspiration board with the numbered items below:
  1. The paint color I chose for the walls. A smoky grey that is both sophisticated and neutral enough without keeping that boring painter's beige. Grey is quickly becoming the new black.
  2. This black and white striped rug was the perfect bold statement-making piece with which to build the room around.
  3. For her large windows, I chose luxurious-looking gold drapes  which will be hung high and drape gorgeously to the floor.
  4. This functional but stylish sectional was not only a great bargain, but will provide just enough seating and comfort to define her space. This will be angled in front of her fireplace to provide visual interest and a great view onto the main focal point of the room.
  5. Two of these fresh and colorful-patterned slipper chairs will provide additional seating and  tie in the  metallic, yellow and black and white color scheme beautifully. These will be  positioned in front of the window slightly angled to each other to provide a stunning seating area.
  6.  This glamorous metallic gold starburst mirror will be placed right above the fireplace mantle and make the perfect accessory with which to bring the eye up to the main focal point of the room.
  7. This  gorgeous silver-mirrored console table will be placed behind the sectional.
  8. This hand-made silver tray table will be positioned between the two slipper chairs and provide not only function, but an additional touch of glam to the seating area.
  9. Fun and colorful throw pillows tie in the color scheme and provide additional coziness.
  10. This statuesque striped vase will be placed on the mantle and tie in perfectly with the rug.
  11. Silver-spray painted Manzanita branches will be placed inside the striped vase to provide an organic contrast.
  12. This bamboo yellow bowl  filled with a variety of decorative birch balls will be placed on top of the silver-mirrored console table to make a beautiful, colorful and organic vignette.
  13. Last, but definitely not least, is this patterned yellow drum pendant that will be hung in the center of the room and provide additional lighting and loads of contemporary style.
Here is Nairobi's Testimonial in her own words:
"I am absolutely Floored!!! This is beyond stunning, all these elements look so incredible together and much, much more expensive than their price-tag! You did a Brilliant job!!!!! I will be hiring you for other rooms in my home! Thank you!Thank you! Thank you!!!! "

An Old World Art Museum-Inspired Wedding.

Please check out the newly added Ces't La Vie Parties and Events  (tab under the logo) -  A dedicated page to many of the Client Events and Parties I have had the pleasure to plan and execute. My journey as an Event Planner began back in August of 2004 when I began planning the wedding for my little sister (Aug of 2005 and then subsequently my own October 2005.)  I quickly realized I had a great passion for both the creative and organizational aspects involved in Event Planning.  I knew that despite some of the negative aspects of planning large-scale events, like weddings, the positives far outweighed the cons.  There is something simply intoxicating of seeing your vision and hard-work come to life, I knew then that I had found my calling. Leaving behind a career in Financial Trending and Analysis for a big Telecom firm, although daunting, felt like the right thing to do. This is when C'est La Vie Events was born.

Here is a brief breakdown of one of the first Design or "Inspiration" Boards I came up with way before these things became trendy or before Pinterest even existed.

(Excuse the rough-around-the-edges appearance, I had much to learn technology wise:)

Design Concept Inspiration Board for Old-World Art Museum Wedding

And here is a Collage of the Inspiration Board I brought to life (professional pictures taken by my photographer Miguel Lugo)

After Collage

The inspiration for this unique wedding concept came from a number of things:  Namely our love for Travel,  Roman and Greek Architecture, Art and an aversion to traditional "cookie-cutter" white weddings.

We knew we had found the ideal venue to make our dream wedding a reality when we located the Montclair Art Musuem in Montclair, New Jersey.

We could make this great hall in the center of the museum with a gorgeous sky-light, stage and lighting whatever we'd like it to be. We also loved that with the rental of this venue it included free access to all of the galleries, parking and a one-event-only party atmosphere.

Here are some of the Details of that special day:

Plum, Gold and Cranberry Color Scheme.  Bouquets were Plum Calas and Red roses.

Edible Cocktail Table Centerpiece

My take on a Guest Book I made out of Parchment Paper for that authentic "old-world" feel. I also had flyers prepared giving more details on all the beautiful galleries the guests could explore during the cocktail hour.

Table Scape:  The Centerpieces were plaster Busts I "aged" with paint, they made the ideal  unique centerpiece for an Art Museum (not to mention it would never "wilt" like a floral one.) They were a huge hit with the guests!

Combined different colors and textures for a visually interesting table-scape

The Chivari Chairs we rented really gave the finishing elegant touch we were looking for:

Sweetheart Table

Cake we Decorated Ourselves with simple flowers. I purchased those two "Roman" pillars and aged them with paint. Our simple three-tiered was delicious.

Shabby. But oh-so-chic.

Inspiration Board for Dining Room.
Client: Mary.
Mary, a lover of all things cottage, requested my help to transform her existing dining room into a light and airy space with lots of feminine touches and lived-in-looking furniture pieces. This was her reaction to the inspiration board above:

"Incredible! How absolutely Beautiful! I can't believe you were able to acheive the vision I never knew I  always wanted! This is perfection! I cannot wait to start purchasing and painting and send you the after pictures!!!!  Thanks a million!!!"*

*Mary asked that I not share her before pictures, as always the client's wishes are always respected at Ces't La Vie Events.
